When Props Attack

Personal injury lawsuits can start anywhere at any time. Recently, a claim was filed against the Broadway show “Billy Elliot” after a prop fell and hurt some audience members. According the news articles, two women actually had to be hospitalized after a prop flew into the seating area before the end of the first act. One ended up with permanent scaring while the other suffered a concussion. Both women are seeking damages for their injuries and the trauma suffered.

Of course, this could have happened to anyone. Props fall and actors slip all the time. However, the people behind the show were remiss in that they didn’t post warning signs for audience members. Who goes to a Broadway show and expects to leave on a stretcher? If it can happen to them, it could happen to anyone. And that’s why the show’s producers should have taken more care when it came to public safety.

  • Excellent post Gerein. It seems we are seeing far more legal neglicence cases in regards to props, dating back to the Michael Jackson fire on the Pepsi commercial. You came recommended to us and wanted to stop by and check out the site. Good work!
