Why Even Jail Should Fear Personal Injury Lawsuits
Recently, an Orange County detainee died while in custody, the fifth detainee since October to pass away while in this jail. The Honduran citizen being held was being detained by Immigrations and Customs, and apparently had a heart attack while in jail. However, rumors are abounding that there might be something more to it than that.
Now, I don’t want to speculate too much, but five deaths since October is a bit high for a jail. Even if every death was of natural causes, the city is opening itself up to a major wrongful death lawsuit or two, especially if hurting families get involved. And even the hint of a lawsuit can be a devastation for a law enforcement agency.
So, Orange County, I have some advice for you: don’t get arrested. You might get sent to jail and never come out again.
These costs should certainly be included. Consider the costs and sex offenders being tortured in jail by inmates with the possibility. Usually the plaintiffs must have a fairly strong case for lenders to agree to lawsuit funding.
